Ekali's Origin

I made a promise
at six years old.

At an international school in Sweden, I watched a Chinese classmate open her notebook and begin to write — not letters, but drawings. The most elegant symbols I had ever seen. In that moment, I made myself a quiet promise: one day, I will learn this language.

That promise took decades, but I never forgot it. When the time came, I went to Beijing. I studied first at BLCU and became HSK6-certified in approximately 18 months, then at BFSU — the university that trains China's official translators. I returned to Greece as the only officially accredited Chinese translator in the country.

Is Chinese really as hard as everyone says? +

It's different — not impossible. The characters look intimidating, but they have an internal logic that becomes beautiful once you understand it. The tones are genuinely difficult but learnable. Ekali achieved HSK6 in 18 months as an adult learner. With the right method, Chinese is absolutely within reach.

What level do I need to start? +

No level at all. Glossa is designed from complete beginner through to advanced HSK6. If you've never seen a Chinese character in your life, you're in exactly the right place. Use the "Find My Plan" quiz to get a personalised recommendation.

What's the difference between the plans? +

Independent Practice gives you unlimited adaptive exercises. Independent Study adds a fully structured programme — video lessons, audio, quizzes. Guided Study is the full programme plus private sessions with Ekali. The right plan depends on how you learn best.

Is the platform in Greek or English? +

Primarily in English, with Greek support where relevant. Ekali is Greek and fully understands the Greek learner's perspective — the common struggles, the shared cultural references, where Greek speakers specifically find Chinese difficult.

Can my child use Glossa? +

How does Guided Study work? +

Guided Study includes the full Independent Study programme plus private sessions with Ekali. Sessions are scheduled flexibly to fit your life. Does Glossa prepare me for HSK exams? +

Yes. The Glossa methodology is built around real Chinese proficiency — and HSK is the internationally recognised benchmark for that. If exam preparation is your specific goal, mention it when selecting your plan and Ekali can tailor the approach accordingly.
