I made a promise
at six years old.
At an international school in Sweden, I watched a Chinese classmate open her notebook and begin to write — not letters, but drawings. The most elegant symbols I had ever seen. In that moment, I made myself a quiet promise: one day, I will learn this language.
That promise took decades, but I never forgot it. When the time came, I went to Beijing. I studied first at BLCU and became HSK6-certified in approximately 18 months, then at BFSU — the university that trains China's official translators. I returned to Greece as the only officially accredited Chinese translator in the country.
Glossa by EK is that journey, turned into a method. A system built not from textbooks but from lived experience — the struggle, the breakthroughs, the beauty of it.
"I didn't go to China thinking I'd become a teacher. I went because I couldn't not go. And when I came back, I realized the way I had studied — methodically, stubbornly, humanly — was actually a formula. And it really worked."
